March 2022 Meeting

March 16, 2022

Topic:

SEM-EDS: Advanced Wear Debris Analysis for Optimized Maintenance

Speaker: Craig Winterfield, Vice President - Laboratory Services, Fluid Life

Presentation Topic:

With the use of Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analysis, attendees will learn how to receive a clearer and more actionable picture of the possible sources and specific types of contamination and wear. Automated SEM-EDS analysis can determine the size and composition of hundreds of particles per sample in lubricating oil, grease, filters, and process materials. Attendees will learn how this technology is an effective method of wear debris monitoring to help prevent equipment failures, minimize downtime, and reduce costs. They will also learn how SEM-EDS can be used as a holistic tool for evaluating oil, greases, filter media, and magnetic plugs.

Our speaker:

Craig Winterfield is the Vice President of Laboratory Services for Fluid Life. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in physics. Craig has been involved in the Oil Analysis and Condition Monitoring field for over 14 years. Craig also volunteers as an ISO 17025 Technical Assessor for the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA).
